Does anyone else here listen to Nightwish? They're a symphonic metal band from Finland and they are AMAZING! They've got nearly flawless musicians, and really, I'd even go as far as to say completely flawless!!!

Finally, someone else who knows about this band! I've been into Nightwish for about 5 years now. Started off with listening to "Wish I Had An Angel" and was completely hooked. I've seen them twice in concert but unfortunately because I started so late into the band's history I never got to see them play with Tarja. But Anette isn't bad at all. I think she's got a fantastic voice and I do not subscribe to the Tarja vs. Anette debate. =P
Gotta list some of my favorites.. if you guys haven't heard this band, go listen to them right now.
Wish I Had An Angel (duh)
Deep Silent Complete
Beauty of the Beast
Dead to the World
Come Cover Me
EDIT: I think you got the 1,000th post with this thread, Jason.

Nice. Personally, I agree about the debate, people say that Anette has turned it into a "typical run of the mill" band, but I completely disagree after listening to songs like "The Poet and the Pendulum".
Best songs in my opinion:
Tarja:
End of All Hope
Bless the Child
Crownless
10th Man Down
Anette:
7 Days to the Wolves
The Poet and the Pendulum
Amaranth
Escapist
Sahara

I have heard of them...and heard one or two songs. It was hard for me at that time to get into them because I wasn't too into women's voice back then. But i think I will give it a try again to see how I really like them.

It's ok, Mushi. You just like listening to hot Japanese guys sing, that's all. =P
Hmm... As far as anything Anette did I would have to put the Escapist at the top for me. I LOVE that song. Do you have the Made In Hong Kong CD? It's mostly just live versions but there's While Your Lips Are Still Red and Escapist. Plus Marco sings Cadence of Her Last Breath which is pretty cool.
Yeah, I've heard people say that about Anette, too. But using that argument really debases a lot of what Nightwish is about. Sure, you need a good vocalist to carry the music (Simone Simmons was offered Tarja's place after 2004) but I think a larger part of their talent comes from Tuomas and his lyrics and compositions. Now if Tuomas left, that wouldn't be Nightwish anymore.
Oh, Mushi... you'll like this... Girls LOVE Tuomas.

I've listened to Nightwish before, and they're a pretty sweet band, though I haven't really "gotten into" them.
Well, I'm a bored 17-year-old nerd with a bit of a chip on my shoulder. My interests include music, computers, the internet, and video games. I'd type more, but I don't really feel motivated to do so. =p

I've only recently begun listening to Nightwish. I quite like their style. I've actually been listening to a few Scandanavian bands recently. Three from Finland (including Nightwish) which also includes Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica, and two from Sweden called Sabaton and Hammerfall.
There are a few songs that I like in particular from Nightwish.
End of All Hope
Ghost Love Score
Planet Hell
7 Days to the Wolves
Over the Hills and Far Away (cover of a Gary Moore song)

"When they turn the pages of history, when these days have passed long ago.
Will they read of us with sadness? For the seeds that we let grow? We turned our gaze to the castles in the distance. Eyes cast down on the path of least resistance." - 'A Farewell to Kings' by Rush.

Love Sonata Arctica too! =D
Anyone ever seen the video of Tony and Tarja doing Nightwish's "Beauty and the Beast"?

I thought it was Beauty of the Beast? Another good song btw, and so is Phantom of the Opera.

Na, they are two completely different songs. "Beauty and the Beast" is the classic tale retold by Nightwish with a very dark overtone.
"Beauty of the Beast" is the last song from the Century Child album.

Yeah I know Beauty of the Beast, I have the Century Child CD at home. The rest of the songs of theirs that I own are downloaded from iTunes.
