With all the improvements in video technology, 3D movies are becoming more of a common thing compared to even several years ago. But is the few extra dollars worth it? Is a 3D movie a worthwhile experience or just a gimick?
What are the best movies to see in 3D?
I've never seen a 3D movie in the theater before and I'm considering seeing Thor in 3D tomorrow. Is this worth it or should I just see it in 2D?

The burning question: Can you handle watching 3D movies? A bunch of people have complained of headaches and sore eyes after watching 3D movies.
Thor is worth seeing in 3D, so I'd give 3D movies a shot with that movie, and see how your body reacts.

I feel that 3D movies have its places in certain movies, especially ones where the director takes advantage of the fact that the movie is in 3D. Sadly there were only a few good movies that I've seen in 3D that was worth it, Coraline was one of them. There were also ones that I felt was just a gimmick, like TRON LEGACY for example, I mean you could have watched that movie without the glasses and wouldn't have missed anything.
I want to see Thor in 3D though, so you lemme know how it goes Gabe!

The main reason why so many movies are in 3D nowadays is simply because it makes them harder to pirate. Not only that, but it also works well for drawing in larger audiences who are actually convinced that 3D movies are worth watching. I'll admit, it DOES work well in some movies, but not in most.

The movie in 3D was really good, to be honest. I'm glad that I saw it in 3D and with the early bird price it was LESS than a regular movie! At some points in the movie my sister actually flinched when objects were flying in the screen. This is definitely one you want to see in 3D.
Remember a few years back when movie theaters were doing so bad? Many of them were closing and people blamed it on the availability of home theater systems. Now it seems things are coming around for the movie theaters again with the return of 3D. Don't know about you all, but there's something about a movie theater that you can't replicate in your home.... Maybe it's the crappy chairs or the greasy popcorn, or the couple making out in the aisle behind you... Whatever it is, there is a definite draw to the movie theater.

hmm..I prefer watching movies at home, for those exact reasons you listed there Gabe, LOL! I hate the chairs, the greasy popcorn, the greasy mouths chewing the popcorn, and the couple making out beside you, and the people that talk, and the retards that don't turn off cellphones or checks in the middle of the movie...and the list goes on ._.;;

I've never seen 3D in the theater, but at home on a nice 3DTV with a 3D BluRay player it's well worth it. Movies just seem a lot more realistic in 3D more like you're really there vs. watching it on a screen. I picked up Final Destination in 3D and there's a part where a snake comes at you...in 3D it looks like it's about to hit you in the face!

Yeah I don't go to the theaters that often unless friends want to see something, otherwise I'd rather watch the bluray or 3D bluray at home on the giant TV where nobody brings their screaming kid. I'm gonna buy it Friday, hopefully it's on 3D bluray.

When I reserved a 3 PM Saturday ticket for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, I had anticipated a ton of screaming kids and annoying teenagers, but virtually everyone was a freaking old fart. Hopefully that's a new trend!

Eh, I wear glasses and usually glasses over glasses doesn't work. Also, I find 3D, in its current state, more of a fad, kinda like 2.5D. The pictures seem to not go past, as it appears, 5" past the edge of the screen, which doesn't trick me into thinking it's really popping out of the screen. (That could be because of my glasses interfering with the 3D glasses, but it that's the case, I'm not going to pay extra for a 3D movie.)

It might depend some on screen size and how far you're sitting from the screen too. On my TV I've seen stuff pop out of the screen and look like it was going to hit me in the face, a good 10 feet from the TV.
